The Bowie Band is an incredible program, but just imagine what it could be if every parent got involved.

Parents can make an enormous difference in their child’s education if they are actively involved with them at school. There are numerous opportunities to provide help and assistance throughout the year. Don’t wait to be asked, choose an area or an activity and just show up and get involved! Working with the band and all the wonderful students is a true blessing and a great way to make new friends who share a common passion and goal! Become an integral part of the Bowie Band organization and help to make a difference, not only in the program, but also in the lives of the students involved.

As we all have learned, parents need as much assistance as students do to keep up with the fast-paced and rigorous demands of the Bowie Band. The purpose of the Adopt-A-Rookie-Parent program is to ease the transition to the Bowie Band for new parents by pairing them with parents that are veterans of the program.

Adopter parent volunteers are matched to no more than three Rookie parents, with the adoptions being “section specific” (i.e., flutes adopt flutes, percussion adopts percussion, etc.), unless there is a shortage of Adopter volunteers in any particular section. The Adopter serves as a valuable source of information about band life by answering questions and checking on how things are going. It is comforting for Rookies to know that there is one person who is dedicated to helping them and to whom they can go with any questions. If you were a rookie parent yourself this year, don’t feel left out. With the end of the school year fast approaching, you have advanced to the status of “veteran” and you can be an Adopter too! In fact, you are especially encouraged to become an Adopter, while your own rookie year is still fresh in your mind.

Your family, friends, and alumni are invited to eat burgers at Burger Stadium, mingle with other band families, and then climb to the top of the stadium and watch the band perform its first official run-through of this fall’s marching show! You will be amazed at how much the kids have accomplished and you will know that all the hours of hard work have paid off. The Boosters will grill hamburgers and each band section will be asked to bring different side dishes. Water games will be a big hit and keep everyone cool!

This is a school-wide booster event at Bowie High School for all Bowie families and friends. The marching band performs our show music, cheerleaders perform and the Silver Stars dance. Plus, all the Booster organizations sell a variety of food and Booster spirit items. The band traditionally sells sausage wraps. Mark your calendars; this is a FUN night!

Volunteers will be needed. Contact our Bulldogs & Hotdogs Coordinator.

Do you want to really feel part of the Bowie Band? Then being a chaperone is just for you! You will develop special relationships with the members and also the other chaperones. You can help out with just a few trips or spend the whole season with us. All chaperones need to be CPR trained. There are lots of easy 30 minute online courses available. You will also need to complete an AISD background check. Come be a band mom or dad to an entire section.

This program makes sure your musician is fed after school before every football game. Fill out the form available on Uniform Day. Volunteers serve more than 200 students in addition to the band directors and a few ever-present parent volunteers who subscribed. A list is posted near the practice rooms of the band hall on game day to remind students what they ordered each week. Meals will be served immediately after school on game days in the Hallway near the band hall. Students will eat and relax with friends before putting on their uniform. Water is provided.

If you have any questions, contact our Feed the Dawgs Coordinator.

Volunteers run this program every day during the morning sessions of Summer Band Camp at Burger.
Various fruits, cups of ice water and Gatorade are prepared for the students. The Fruit Stand also provides basic First Aid supplies such as Tylenol, Pepto Bismol, ice packs, bandages, etc. There are cots and chairs in the shade for those who feel sick. Volunteering at the Fruit Stand is a great way to get to know other parents and the kids themselves.

The entire Bowie Band benefits from the subscription program. All proceeds go directly to the Band Booster organization, which uses the money to help defray the costs of running a highly competitive, nationally recognized high school band program. Of course, another great benefit is that Grand Ol’ Flag subscriptions not only support the Bowie Band, but they also give each subscriber the opportunity to proudly display a full-size U.S. flag in their yard six times a year!

Volunteers are crucial in making this program successful! Contact our GOF  Coordinator.

This committee feeds the band for out-of-town competitions. Depending on the time of departure and preliminary performance of the band, this could include breakfast, lunch and dinner at Bowie or at the competition site for about 300 people. We provide dinner for the two nights of Winter Band Camp at Bowie in February. We also feed directors, clinicians and judges at Region Jazz tryouts, Solo and Ensemble and Winter Band Camp at Bowie. This is a great way to get involved and interact with the most polite group of teenagers around!

If you are interested in helping, contact our VP of Hospitality.

Students can letter in band! This summer’s activities (private lessons, music camps, concerts attended) count toward your letter; so start keeping track. With some extra work, you can letter in your freshman year! Print the form now and keep it on the refrigerator to fill in as events occur. Information and point log are in the band handbook, located in “Files and Handouts” in CHARMS. Letter jacket information will be available at Uniform Day. Or contact our Letter Points Coordinator.
This is how we transport all of our large instruments and props. We use a semi-truck and trailer, and occasionally 3 other pull-behind trailers. We are always in need of drivers who are available and are willing to be licensed to drive the semi. Also, if you are handy with maintenance, our trailers need you!

Can you drive a semi or pull a trailer? Contact our Transportation Coordinator.

This group plays a crucial supporting role – helping the front ensemble load and unload equipment on and off the playing field quickly. Not only do you work closely with the band members, you also get a front-row view of the on-field performance!

The Publicity Coordinator keeps the community “in the know”. They produce and distribute press releases to community publications. Want to brag about our fabulous band and your kid, in particular?  After each event, send action photos and your quotes about the event to our Publicity Coordinator.
Maybe your photo or quote will make it in one of our area newspapers!
Spring Dinner is held the Friday of Spring Band Camp. It offers incoming members and their families an opportunity to meet the Bands of Bowie family, enjoy a catered meal, and bid on silent and live auction items.

Do you have a talent for sewing, hemming or basic repair work? We need your help to keep our marching uniforms in tip-top shape. Beginning on uniform day, we will have a steady stream of ‘fixes’ to be tended to.

Band members get very THIRSTY! To help with this, a quart-sized red igloo Water Bottle is provided to every band student. The ‘Water the Dawgs’ program consists of volunteers who fill these water bottles before football games. These volunteers show up before school is out on Fridays, set up tables and fill igloos with ice water. Before inspection, every band member arrives at the tables to fill their bottle. At out of town competitions, this group loads cases of water bottles on the buses. Would you like to help fill water jugs for the kids before football games?
