2011 RECOGNITIONS
What a way to end the 2011 JBHSOPE competition season! 3rd Place at Bands of America Super Regionals in San Antonio and we earned the General Effect caption in finals!
Congratulations to the James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble for it’s first place finish in 4A competition along with Best in Music, Best General Effect and Best Visual in prelims performance at Bands of America Super Regional in Atlanta. Bowie also earned 2nd place in finals and the Music caption, finishing just behind Tarpon Springs.
Congratulations to the James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble for earning a division 1 title at the Region 18 UIL Marching Contest.
Congratulations to the James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble for it’s first place win at the 35th Annual Westlake Marching Festival.
Bowie earned best Auxillary, Marching and Music captions at the Westlake Marching Festival. This was Bowie’s 17th year of attending the festival.
Congratulations to the James Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble for it’s first place finish in Prelims and Finals at Bands of America Regional in Arlington, TX Oct 1st.
Bowie earned best Music and best General Effect in Prelims and in Finals earned best Music and tied with L.D. Bell for General Effect.

Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble Awards for 2010
Congratulations to the Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble for a most memorable season!
January 24th AISD Board Recognizes Bowie High School Band for placing fourth place at the Class 5A Marching Band Competition in November 2010. The band, composed of 250 students, is under the direction of Bruce Dinkins, Kim Shuttlesworth, Ryan Thomas, and Stephen Howard.
2010 5A State UIL – Bowie earned 4th place in finals.
Bands of America Super Regional San Antonio – Bowie earned the visual caption and placed 3rd overall in finals.
2010 5A Area “D” UIL – Bowie Earned 1st place and is advancing to State in San Antonio. This made history for the Bowie OPE who has never placed 1st at Area.
Region 18 2010 Class 4A and 5A UIL – Bowie earned all 1′s which advances them to Area in San Antonio.
34th Annual Westlake Marching Festival – 1st place in 5A, Bowie earned music and marching captions; 2nd place overall
18th Annual Capital City Marching Festival – 2nd place in AAAA overall and 2nd place in AAAA Color Guard

This year the Bowie Outdoor Performing Ensemble was honored to be chosen as one of only a handful of high school marching bands to perform in the 82nd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

BOA Super Regionals – 4th Place Finalists
Area D UIL – 2nd in Area – Advancing to State
Region 18 UIL – Earned Division 1 – Advancing to Area UIL
32nd Annual Westlake Marching Festival – 2nd Place in Preliminaries, Best Auxillary, Best Marching, 2nd Place in Finals
16th Annual Capital City Marching Festival – 1st Place in Division, Best Musical Performance Overall, and Best General Effect Overall
Bowie Concert Band Honors for the 2008-2009 School Year
Congratulations to Bowie Band’s Wind Ensemble I who were invited to perform at the Welcome Concert for the American Bandmaster Association in College Station March 4th
TSSEC – 2 soloists were recognized, 15 superior ratings were earned.
UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest – Wind Endsembles I, II, III and IV earned all superior ratings
Solo & Ensemble South Zone – 57 soloists and 25 ensembles advancing to state
TMEA 5A – Bowie has 3 All-State musicians
TMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra – 1 musician from Bowie
Region 18 Region Band – 33 Bowie musicians qualified
Region 18 Area – 14 students advanced to Area
Region 18 Jazz Ensemble – 6 students earned a spot in this ensemble

TMEA All State Jazz Band – One trumpeter earned a spot in this band.
TMEA All State Concert Band – One bassoonist earned her way in this band.
Region 18 Orchestra Results – Six students were selected to participate in this orchestra.
Region 18 Jazz Ensemble – Three students earned spot in this fine ensemble.
Region 18 Honor Band – 32 Bowie musicians qualified.
Region 18 Solo & Ensemble Contest – Overall we had 84 Solo Superior Medals and 134 Ensemble Superior Medals. We also have 65 entries that will compete in the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in May.
Honor Orchestra of America – Bowie saw five students earn the honor of this band.
AISD All City Jazz Ensemble – A freshman drummer earned this elite honor.
University of Texas Longhorn Jazz Festival – The Bowie Jazz Band saw two of it’s soloists earn awards as well as the trumpet section.
UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest – Congratulations to Wind Ensemble 1, 2, 3, and 4 for your superior ratings.
State Solo/Ensemble – Congratulations to the 11 ensembles and 16 individuals who received a superior rating for their performance.
